Meet our Crew

Members of the shop created this intricate "Rose Window" which was then completed with pieces of colored acrylic to complete the beautiful 'stained glass window' of the church in 2009's Sound of Music.

The Little Theatre is getting ready for its next production. You see the actors, you see the lights, you hear the sound. The actors bow, receive the applause, and the audience goes home happy.

But, did you ever wonder what it takes to put them on the stage. Here’s the set crew sitting on the stage of Arsenic and Old Lace. That’s right, it takes all of them to build, paint and assemble the set that creates the illusion called the theatre.

These volunteers, some retired, work tirelessly, every Wednesday and Saturday morning to create these sets. Long known for its incredible sets, LTM sets the standard for community theatre in Connecticut. Fred Blish, actor, author and founding member of The Little Theatre, designs many of the award winning sets.

“It’s exciting and rewarding to see the design come to life” says Blish. “And we couldn’t do it without the efforts of all these talented people.” Blish adds, “we’re always looking for new volunteers….come join the fun.”

So, now, even as the set comes down for the last time, on Sunday, the crew has already begun working on our next production. And, just wait until you see that set!

Members of LTM are entitled to vote for upcoming plays, volunteer at shows and concerts, help with set, lighting and sound design, costuming and other production needs, and much more. Regular meetings are held to hear the ideas and concerns of members for all aspects of the theater, and talk about promotion, marketing and fundraising too! Here, members are seen at a recent meeting.

Members also use their skills to strike the sets, this photo shows them doing so after a recent production. We need your hands, hearts, good strong backs, and your time!

Meet the Staff

Any business day, you'll find both staff and volunteers at Cheney Hall ready to assist you with purchasing tickets, renting the hall for your function, or how to become a volunteer. Come in any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and you will find a variety of great volunteers to serve your needs.  We’d love to meet you!

In celebration of Volunteer Appreciation Week, members of Little Theatre of Manchester gathered in front of their home at Cheney Hall for a group photo. The volunteers shown here are a small number of the large volunteer organization which produces four main stage theater productions, smaller staged play readings, special events and a five-week summer theater program for children, each year. Shown here are carpenters, designers, actors, producers, usher, box office volunteers, painters, and LTM members who select and vote on the shows, which have been a mainstay cultural treasure in the Manchester area since 1960. Executive Director, Joyce Hodgson, is shown front right. Sara Logan of South Windsor is the Chairman of the Governing Board.
