Discover the vibrant, Calypso-infused tale!
Journey to a sun-drenched island in the Antilles, where powerful gods like Asaka (Mother of Earth), Agwé (God of Water), Erzulie (Goddess of Love), and Papa Ge (Demon of Death) shape the lives of the people there.
This Tony Award-winning musical shares the story of Ti Moune, a courageous peasant girl who risks everything for love when Daniel, a wealthy young man, enters her life. She devotes herself to saving him, even though the island's strict class divisions make their romance impossible.
Her selfless act draws the attention of the gods, who make a powerful bet: Which is stronger, Love or Death?
With lively music, energetic dance, and strong storytelling, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND is a moving story that shows even a young girl can change the world, and that love is stronger than fate.
“A jubilant Caribbean fantasy!” – Ahrens & Flaherty
What is the plot, and is it appropriate for all ages?
This is a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, set on a lush Caribbean island. Unlike the original, it does not have a typical fairy tale ending. The story follows a peasant girl who risks everything for the wealthy boy she loves, while the island's gods, including the god of death, control her fate. The musical uses storytelling, music, and dance to explore powerful themes such as love, sacrifice, class, and forgiveness. It is recommended for ages 8 and up, but please note that the show includes mature themes, including death and social injustice.

What is the running time?
The original Broadway production of Once On This Island typically runs without an intermission and lasts approximately 90 to 100 minutes. We anticipate this production will be similar. A more specific time will be available closer to opening night.
