A Hilariously Heartfelt, High-Kicking Celebration of Acceptance!

This seven-time Tony Award-nominated musical is a celebration of identity, community, and the hilarious chaos that ensues when Broadway meets the Midwest.

Meet Emma Nolan, an Indiana high schooler whose only wish is to take her girlfriend to the prom. The conservative PTA, led by a fiercely protective mother, promptly cancels the event to stop her.

Enter four down-on-their-luck Broadway narcissists, fresh off a flop opening night. Led by the aging diva Dee Dee Allen and the fabulous Barry Glickman, they latch onto Emma’s story as their ticket back to relevance, descending on the small town in a blaze of spandex and misplaced good intentions.

What follows is an uproarious, heartfelt, and ultimately triumphant journey. Packed with show-stopping musical numbers, incredible dancing, and razor-sharp wit, The Prom is a sparkling, old-fashioned musical comedy that delivers an undeniably timely and important message: You belong!

“IT’S SO FULL OF HAPPINESS THAT YOU THINK YOUR HEART IS ABOUT TO BURST.”Variety

  • What is the plot, and is it appropriate for all ages?

THE PROM is a hilarious and heartwarming musical comedy about a high school senior, Emma Nolan, in conservative Indiana who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom. When the PTA cancels the event to stop her, four self-involved, fading Broadway stars show up to champion her cause.

The musical deals directly with themes of homophobia, acceptance, and finding your voice. It is wildly funny and ultimately triumphant. This production is generally recommended for ages 10 and up. While the language is mostly mild and the story is positive, the subject matter involves adult themes of conflict and LGBTQ+ discrimination that younger viewers may not fully grasp.

    What is the running time?

The Prom typically runs approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission. We anticipate this production will be similar. A more specific time will be available closer to opening night.
